Let’s play the ukulele!

By April 2, 2014Video gallery

As part of The Terrific Twos at Riverside, I took the ukulele in yesterday for the morning children to explore. It was a hit!

The children managed turn taking and sharing so well, which should not be underestimated when you are two years old.

Above are a two video clips of some of the children’s first explorations of this instrument.

In the first clip, notice how focussed this little girl is, despite the distractions, background noise and adult voices. She has her own way of playing this, which I whole heartedly encourage. I think that for a two year old, there isn’t a ‘right’ way to play the ukulele, it is for them to explore and decide how they would like to play it. Often, much younger children come up with much more interesting ways to play instruments than me.
In the second clip we see some fabulous child-initiated sharing, and see how this instrument is played between friends, whilst exploring another area of the room.

Your children are amazing! I am having so much fun working with them in Riverside Nursery.

Don’t forget we’re having a sharing event in Easter, please come in and find out more about the music project and how you child has been responding. I promise you won’t be forced to do anything you don’t want to do.

Funded twos sharing events at Riverside Nursery:
